Did you know that over 30% of gym-goers use running machines regularly? These versatile fitness tools are a staple for anyone wanting to boost their cardio. Running machines offer convenience and flexibility, allowing you to run or walk regardless of the weather. They cater to all fitness levels, making them perfect for beginners and seasoned athletes alike. With features like adjustable speeds and incline settings, they help you tailor your workout to meet your goals. Discover how incorporating running machines into your routine can elevate your fitness journey and keep you motivated.

Key Takeaways

  • Understand the different types of running machines available, such as treadmills and hybrid models, to choose the one that best fits your fitness goals.
  • Recognise the numerous benefits of using running machines, including improved cardiovascular health and convenience for indoor workouts, making them an excellent choice for all fitness levels.
  • Consider essential features like incline settings, cushioning systems, and digital interfaces when selecting a running machine to enhance your workout experience.
  • Research buying tips specific to the Australian market, such as local brands and warranties, to ensure you make an informed purchase.
  • Prioritise quality over price; investing in a reliable running machine can lead to better long-term health outcomes and greater satisfaction with your workouts.
  • Regularly maintain your running machine to extend its lifespan and ensure it operates efficiently, keeping you motivated on your fitness journey.

Types of Running Machines

Manual Treadmills

Manual treadmills require users to power the belt through their own effort. They are often more affordable than motorised models. These machines provide an effective workout but can be challenging for beginners. Users engage more muscles when running on manual treadmills.

Motorised Treadmills

Motorised treadmills offer various speed settings and incline options. They cater to different fitness levels and goals. Many home treadmills feature programmable workouts. This allows users to customise their routines easily. Commercial treadmills often have advanced features, such as heart rate monitors and built-in entertainment systems.

Folding vs Non-Folding

Folding treadmills save space in homes or gyms. They can be stored away when not in use, making them ideal for smaller areas. Non-folding treadmills tend to be sturdier and may offer better performance. These machines are suitable for regular use in a dedicated workout space.

Curved Treadmills

Curved treadmills are unique in design. They have a curved running surface that requires more effort from the user. This results in a more intense workout compared to standard models. Certain treadmills focus on improving running form and enhancing stamina.

Treadmill Selection

Choosing the right treadmill involves considering various factors. Buyers should assess their fitness goals, available space, and budget. Features such as motor size, incline capability, and warranty also matter in the selection process.

Benefits of Using Running Machines

Cardiovascular Fitness

Running machines significantly enhance cardiovascular fitness. Regular workouts on a treadmill can improve heart rate and stamina. This consistent exercise helps strengthen the heart and lungs. Studies show that indoor running can lead to better overall health.

Controlled Environment

Using a treadmill provides a controlled environment for your workouts. Outdoor running can be affected by weather conditions. Rain, snow, or extreme temperatures can disrupt your routine. A treadmill allows you to maintain your fitness journey without interruptions. You can run regardless of the season.

Diverse Training Options

Modern running machines come with various features to diversify training. Incline settings allow users to mimic outdoor terrain. This feature targets different muscle groups, enhancing the overall workout experience. By adjusting the incline, one can engage more muscles in the legs and core.

HIIT Training

Treadmills are ideal for HIIT training (High-Intensity Interval Training). Users can alternate between high-speed sprints and slower recovery periods. This method is effective for weight loss and increasing metabolic rate. It keeps workouts engaging and challenging.

Treadmill Maintenance

Regular treadmill maintenance is essential for optimal performance. Keeping the machine clean and lubricated ensures longevity. Proper care enhances the running experience and safety during workouts.

Essential Features to Consider

Motor Power

Motor power plays a crucial role in performance. A machine with at least 2.5 to 3.0 horsepower is ideal for varied speeds. This ensures smooth operation, especially during intense workouts. Higher motor power supports users of different fitness levels.

Cushioning System

Cushioning systems protect joints from impact. Look for machines with adjustable cushioning to enhance comfort. This feature reduces the risk of injury and makes workouts more enjoyable. Proper support during running can significantly improve the overall experience.

Built-in Programmes

Built-in programmes add variety to workouts. Many machines come with pre-set routines tailored to specific fitness goals. These options keep users engaged and motivated. Connectivity features allow syncing with fitness apps for tracking progress.

Size and Adjustments

Consider the size of the running machine before purchase. Ensure it fits well in your space while allowing room for adjustments. Some models provide foldable options, making storage easier when not in use.

Cost and Payment Options

Assess the cost of various models. Prices can vary widely based on features and brand reputation. Explore payment options that suit your budget, including financing plans if necessary.

Buying Tips for Australian Market

Local Brands

Researching local brands is crucial. Australian companies offer machines designed for local conditions. Brands like Horizon Fitness and ProForm cater specifically to the needs of Australian consumers. They provide models suited for various fitness levels and budgets.

Price Comparison

Compare prices across different retailers. Websites such as eBay and Amazon Australia often have competitive pricing. Many retailers also have seasonal sales, especially around public holidays. This can save you a significant amount of money. Always check for promotions or discounts that may be available.

Warranty and Service

Consider warranty and service options before making a purchase. A good warranty can protect your investment over time. Look for machines with at least a two-year warranty on parts and labour. Consider the availability of local service centres. This ensures you receive timely support if needed.

Heart Rate Monitors

Many modern running machines come with built-in heart rate monitors. These features can help track your fitness progress effectively. Monitoring your heart rate during workouts can improve your overall performance.

Usage Time

Think about how much time you will dedicate to using the machine each week. If you plan to use it daily, investing in a top-quality model is wise. Cheaper models may not withstand frequent use.

Closing Thoughts

Understanding running machines is essential for enhancing your fitness journey. You’ve explored various types, benefits, and features to consider when making a purchase. Armed with tips tailored for the Australian market, you’re now better equipped to make informed choices that align with your goals.

Endurance Athlete Treadmill

I recently came across Endurance Treadmills during their Easter special promotion. After going through many genuine customer reviews, I decided to purchase the Marathon Treadmill. A day after placing my order, I received a call informing me that the Marathon model had sold out. However, they kindly offered me the Athlete model at no extra cost — a gesture I truly appreciated.

After using the Athlete Treadmill for a few days now, I can confidently say that I am very happy with my purchase. Setup was incredibly straightforward — simply unbox, unfold, and secure with just two screws, and it’s ready to go.

The machine itself has a compact size that fits well in my space, yet the running belt is generously wide and long, offering a comfortable experience. The motor runs very quietly, making it perfect for home use. The phone and tablet holder is a handy addition, though I do wish it could accommodate larger tablets like the iPad Pro.

The console is easy to use, with a responsive touchscreen, and I particularly like that I can download the app to synchronize my workouts with my Apple Watch — a great feature for tracking progress.

Overall, the Endurance Athlete Treadmill has exceeded my expectations, both in terms of build quality and user experience. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a professional-grade treadmill for home use!

Happy with this!

I'm no pro runner, but this treadmill doesn't feel any different to me to the ones in the gym. Great quality. Easy to assemble, though slightly different to the one shown in the assembly video (which I would recommend watching) – this model just has two protective covers that need to be clicked in place, where the top bolts go. I'm very happy with my purchase.

Best Treadmill I've owned! Endurance Athlete Treadmill

I was shopping for a new compact Treadmill, as I don't have heaps of storage room.
Lots of places didn't meet my criteria for a powerful compact/foldable treadmill that has automatic Incline features. Then I stumbled upon Endurance Treadmills and was excited to see they are Australian owned and run with great reviews.

I purchased the Endurance Athlete Treadmill as it had the specifications I was after. The shipping was fast and team were super friendly.

I've only had the treadmill for 2-3 weeks now and used it 4-5 times a week. It's a beast of a machine! Nice wide belt and can go up to 16kmph with automatic incline. It has super nice suspension and runs quietly.

The Treadmill is extremely easy to unfold and use with just two bolts to tighten and good to go! Putting away is just as easy too. Just fold it , tighten the bolts and has wheels for easy movement.

I highly recommend Endurance Treadmills!

Endurance SPT 1 year ownership review

This review is for the Endurance SPT after 1 year of ownership.

I'll start by saying the online support prior to delivery was excellent. Our treadmill was purchased just prior to Christmas 2023 whilst on sale through Endurance's official Amazon shop. We were departing for holidays within a few days and were in the predicament of possibly having the treadmill delivered whilst being away. We reached out and their support was very good and responsive, and were able to organise from memory a next day delivery (we live in Sydney).

The treadmill is a medium size and weight, giving it a solid enough feel in build quality and stability, however remaining light enough to be easily moved around by myself or wife if needed. As other reviews may have mentioned, set up may be quite difficult if done alone, however instructions and steps are itself easy.

Here are my likes, dislikes, and observations from the last year of ownership.

Likes:
User interface - simple as a treadmill should be with large buttons as well as controls on the handles
Running belt - made of a hard-wearing plastic material which provides plenty of grip however also won't cause friction burns on intermittent skin contact (safer with children)
Form factor - Being able to fold up the treadmill and move it around the house is great
Speed and incline options - More than enough settings for 99% of the population
Finish - The materials used and the coatings on the frame are good quality and show almost no wear from a year of use

Dislikes:
Heartrate sensors - Located on the handles, these sensors are probably only for those continuously walking. They take too long to establish a reading (e.g. walking after conducting a run)
Lack of waterproofing - This may sound silly, however I myself generate a lot of sweat during a run, and there are a couple vulnerable points on the treadmill where water/sweat may ingress. These include the speed/incline adjustment buttons on the handles, the usb port, and the speakers. This vulnerability is serious enough that even after a wipe down after every use, I have had an instance where the treadmill was unable to turn on for multiple days in a row due to this. To combat this I now have to drape a towel over the whole upper section of the treadmill when in use by myself.

Other observations:
Size of the track - I am 175cm tall and find the track a perfectly adequate size for running. I would still say the track size does initially take getting used to and you will find yourself consciously aware of the sides and end of the track, however this is no longer a factor.
Somewhat limited quick-select speeds - I think more space on the interface should be dedicated to adjusting the speed and less controlling the incline. Quick-select buttons on the screen interface only go up in speeds of 2km/h up to 10km/h which can mean constantly holding down the increase button for a short while if you want to run at speeds greater than 10km/h (only increases in increments of 0.1km/h per press).
Pricing - I think at the time whilst on sale, this treadmill was a very good purchase and great value, however whilst writing this review there are currently some other comparable treadmills which I would say are very competitively priced.
